Journaling has helped me in so many ways. It has been proven to help people and I know it to be true. I used to journal ceremoniously each night. Back in the 80s and 90s, it was my sanctuary. Time back then was tough. My daughter hadn't been put on a medication that worked and she was in full-blown Bipolar mode. It was scary and she and I were at odds. It took years, literally, to find the right meds. There were bawling binges and hateful outbursts, etc. And, from the time my granddaughter was 3 until she was 14 or 15, I had guardianship of her. These two girls were TROUBLE with a capital T. And, on top of that I was in an abusive relationship. So, journaling kept me sane. It helped me to remember dates when my mind was so out of sorts from it all.
Journaling can help in times like I had back then and it can help you organize your thoughts, help you sort out what you want to say in different situations, Help you to find the right words. Help you to chronicle life-altering events to look back on later. Help us to express our feelings when we haven't been able to find the words.
One thing people don't realize about journaling is that there are different ways to journal. There are wonderful art journals and different ways to express ourselves. "The Creative Journal" by Lucia Capacchione is a wonderful book full of different ways to express oneself, how to get in touch with our feelings, and, how to find ways to make our lives more meaningful. So many ideas on how to sort it all out.
Do you journal? I used to. I journaled from the time I was about 18 or 19 until I was in my 40s. It really does help.

I kept diaries from a young age until I was in my late teens. I love going back and reading them. Sometimes I am shocked by a bad incident that I had blocked out of my brain. Some people vent and "journal" here now. It's very cathartic. Have a good day.

I had blocked a lot too and going back later was cathartic for me. I was also stressed during a lot of it and the journal kept dates and such for me.Venting on here is something I do a lot of too.

Medication isn't always the right answer, and in the long run can have adverse effects.
