Another day, another mismatch. Power pop and headache-inducing country music. Yeah, that’s a good match. 
Just another normal day in my crazy music world. Here’s today’s song from the rock side of things.
I Got You - Split Enz
New Zealand’s Split Enz is probably better known for the band that came out of it — Crowded House — than their own success. However, this was a very popular song, hitting #1 in Australia and New Zealand and hitting the top ten in Canada, Ireland, and the UK. In America? It tanked.
Ah, but good ol’ college radio gave it life enough to make it near the halfway point of the Billboard charts.
Fun trivia: lead singer/songwriter Neil Finn replaced Lindsey Buckingham in the final incarnation of Fleetwood Mac, and they did this song on tours.
A flop on the charts, but very cherished in my musical heart.

Not at all familiar with the Split Enz or Crowded House. Why do this guys eyes look like serial killer eyes? Have a good weekend.

I remember this song. It did quite well over here as I recall. I liked it, still do.

It predated all the “quirky” power pop that got popular later in the 80s but fell flat here. I’m so embarrassed…we had #1 hits like “Do That to Me One More Time” and “Funkytown” here in 1980, but this didn’t even make the top 40.
