Jason Thomas Mraz (born June 23, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter, born and raised in Mechanicsville, Virginia, a suburb of Richmond. Mraz is an eclectic artist with multiple and varied stylistic influences, including Pop, Rock, jazz, Country, and hip-hop/rap. He is popular in the United States, Southeast Asia, Japan, and Australia and has played with various artists, including The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews Band, Paula Cole, John Popper, Makana, Alanis Morissette, The Ohio Players, Tristan Prettyman, and Jewel. Mraz went to Chickahominy Middle School (8th grade) and Lee Davis High School (grades 9-12) in Mechanicsville, Virginia where he fell in love with his high school sweetheart Kristina Early. His last name is from the Czech word mráz, meaning "frost". Though he did not pick up the guitar until the age of 18, his musical appetite was strong. After a brief stint studying musical theater at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, he moved to San Diego. There he became a hit on the Southern California club scene, playing with percussionist Toca Rivera and his brother, latin-pop guitarist Carlos Olmeda, in a regular gig at the now-defunct Java Joe's coffee shop—the same venue where fellow musician Jewel played a good deal during her early career. In 2001 he was briefly married to a woman named Sheridan; however, they divorced amicably and still remain good friends. Mraz's clear, strong tenor voice and easygoing, optimistic lyrics gained popular acclaim in 2003 when his first single, "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)," began to receive regular play on radio, MTV, and VH1. Co-written by music production team The Matrix, the popularity of "The Remedy" boosted the sales of his major label debut release, Waiting for My Rocket to Come, which would be certified platinum by the RIAA in May 2005. Mraz has often collaborated and performed with funk-hip-hop-folk artist Billy "Bushwalla" Galewood, a friend from New York who studied musical theater with Jason. They perfected their skills by jamming and freestyle rapping for hours while living in New York. Together, they have written and recorded several songs, including "Curbside Prophet", a track from Waiting for My Rocket to Come which was later released as a promotional single. They both describe each other as one of their biggest influences. Anybody else like Jason Mraz? What's your favorite song?

Jason Mraz - Jason Mraz cover
I love his music too! He has a very soulful voice. One of my favorites is his acoustic version of "You and I Both". I listen to it on a regular ; ) He has such a way with word play : ) Here is a video stream of that song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrGSlCFF1Pw You may find the acoustic version here (and lots of other Mraz music and info) http://music.aol.com/artist/jason-mraz/543198/album/Mr.-A-Z/783412 Here's his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/jasonmraz "You And I Both" Was it you who spoke the words that things would happen but not to me Oh things are gonna happen naturally Oh taking your advice I'm looking on the bright side And balancing the whole thing But often times those words get tangled up in lines And the bright lights turn to night Until the dawn it brings Another day to sing about the magic that was you and me Cause you and I both loved What you and I spoke of And others just read of Others only read of the love, the love that I love. See I'm all about them words Over numbers, unencumbered numbered words Hundreds of pages, pages, pages forwards More words then I had ever heard and I feel so alive Cause you and I both loved What you and I spoke of And others just dream of And if you could see me now, Oh love, no You and I, you and I Not so little you and I anymore, mmm... And with this silence brings a moral story More importantly evolving is the glory of a boy Cause you and I both loved What you and I spoke of And others just dream of And if you could see me now Well I'm almost finally out of I'm finally out of Finally deedeedeedee Well I'm almost finally, finally Well I'm free, oh, I'm free And it's okay if you have go away Oh just remember the telephone works both ways And if I never ever hear them ring If nothing else I'll think the bells inside Have finally found you someone else and that's okay Cause I'll remember everything you sang Cause you and I both loved what you and I spoke of and others just read of and if you could see now well I'm almost finally out of. I'm finally out of, finally, deedeeededede well I'm almost finally, finally, out of words. I also really dig "Remedy" too : )

I LOVE Jason Mraz. He is one of my favorite musicians. My favorite song is "Sleep to Dream" or something like that off his live album. His music is so powerful to me. I love his blogs on his myspace page and his website too. He's a really good writer and he picks up on the most tiny details. He is truly talented and I like the fact that he isn't so mainstream either. He does what he likes, and he's good at it.
