Ah, the joys of simultaneous countdowns in two different genres when you’re alphabetizing everything. You get to days like this where you see just how different they are. From one classic country song to a classic rocker, here we go. Modern Love - David Bowie I’ll bet you never knew Stevie Ray Vaughan could be this subtle on guitar! Yes, the blues legend caught David Bowie’s attention at a show, and Bowie tapped him to play guitar on the massively successful Let’s Dance album. This was the apex of Bowie’s success in the US. He’d had #1 songs before, but there was something about that early 80s music that fit what he was doing at the time perfectly. I wouldn’t say Bowie changed as much as “music finally caught up to what he was doing.” He reinvented himself several times, and this seems to be the one that latched on. (Of course, that was also in the beginning of the video era, so that was going for him, too.) Not as big a chart success as the chart-topping title song from the album, this is still my go-to song from that album. I guess because it’s the first song on the album. What a kick-off it is! Modern Love Written by David Bowie Recorded by David Bowie From Let’s Dance, 1983 Peak chart position: #14 Today’s country song: “My Baby’s Gone” I never wave bye-bye:

I’m really worried about you. You could have been playing this song instead of doing laundry at 4 AM.

Why is everyone using pop so much lately?. In my day it was just called rock. I get it because its popular, but dude, pop punk does not sound as cool as just punk and pop rock sounds like those little candies. Lets rock sounds so much better than lets pop rock. Sorry miss lady, but is fun song and kind of does sound pop rockish.

I use “pop” because it’s short for “popular,” not pop music that makes you puke. And, honestly, since yesterday was Dean Martin, I can’t honestly say it’s all “rock,” can I?

Not familiar with this one; but I really don't know Bowie's music anyway. Have a good day.

The next one is a “moldy oldie” that you might remember. Or not.

I’m not a huge Bowie fan, either, but some of his songs are great to me.
