Let’s go back to Dollywood! Yes, it’s time for another trip to those eastern Tennessee mountains.
This time, though, she’s more in the background, even though she still stands out. So let’s visit with her one more time with today’s country song.
Put It Off Until Tomorrow - Bill Phillips
Dolly wrote this with her uncle, Bill Owens. The story goes that they did a demo of it together. Bill Phillips heard the demo and said he wanted both the song and the girl singing harmony on the demo.
Smart move, because this became the biggest hit of Phillips’ career as well as the launching pad for Parton. Everyone has long forgotten him, but everybody knows Dolly.
This is a fantastic song, period.
Put It Off Until Tomorrow
Written by Dolly Parton and Bill Owens
Recorded by Bill Phillips
From Put It Off Until Tomorrow, 1966
Peak chart position: #6
Today’s rock song: “Operator”

She shines in this one, even as a background singer. Oh, and remember, she was all of 19 at the time.

@porwest — she announced her retirement earlier this year. It was a great career, and she deserves to put her feet up and relax.

She was an unknown at the time, but nobody needs to be told that it’s her these days!

This should be the title of my husband's autobiography. Have a good weekend.

It’s the theme song at the procrastination club, too. I keep meaning to go to one of their meetings one day…
