We watched 'Big Eyes' last night

The photo has nothing to do with the text but shows another of our village friends in front of the Melbourne Cup poster. We subscribed to Netflix a while ago then forgot all about it. We don’t really watch a lot of television. However, we’re decided to try to watch a few more movies since we’re paying for the privilege. Last night’s movie was Big Eyes which tells the story of Margaret Keane (1927-2022), an American artist whose second husband, Walter Keane, claimed as his own. As the paintings of, mostly, doe-eyed children, became more popular, the deception became more and more entrenched, and Margaret was forced to keep producing paintings which Walter claimed were done by him. When she wanted to stop the deception, she was threatened by Walter and eventually fled to Hawaii with her daughter. After becoming a Jehovah’s Witness, she found the courage to sue Walter, winning the court case and proving herself to be the artist. Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz played the leads and were both nominated for several awards. We enjoyed the movie and the story sticks closely to the facts which I liked. I was reminded of one of my Mum’s sayings which was ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive.’

@xFiacre That's what the trailers seemed to suggest so we dodged it. We watched St Vincent last night. That was another good movie.

I haven't watched that. Did you enjoy it? I think it might be a series and it looked very violent maybe and we gave it a miss. I just read up about it. Maybe we should have watched it! We still could of course.

I have Netflix, but mostly for Star Trek! At least now I know who to blame for those child paintings

The movie was well done. You can understand how people get trapped into perpetrating a lie.

We watched another movie this afternoon. We need to get our money's worth out of Netflix! This one was called St Vincent and it was very good.

I don’t watch enough of anything to pay for it, truthfully, except baseball. The movie sounds very interesting…and sad. There’s no telling how frequently that happened.

In the court case, the judge had them both produce a painting within an hour so of course the husband had no hope. And I'm sure you're right about it happening quite often.

I really enjoyed the film. She really got herself caught in a bind once she told the first lie.
