Here is some fun facts about the holiday coming up:
* Americans eat about 46 million turkeys each Thanksgiving.
* For many Native Americans(particularly the Wampanoag tribe) the holiday is not a celebration but a day of mourning. It holds a painful legacy due to lives lost and immense hardship due to European colonization.
* President Calvin Coolidge was gifted with a raccoon to eat for Thanksgiving dinner. In 1926 Vinnie Joyce from Nitta Yuma, Mississippi sent the president one for the holiday. He was adopted as a family pet.
* An estimated 50 million pumpkin pies are consumed on Thanksgiving day alone.
* The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been going on since 1924. They only missed two years in 1942 and 1944 during World War II.
