You know, I am not stupid. What's right around the corner? Thanksgiving. And what will people be making a lot of? Pies and cakes that need eggs. You want to know why egg prices went through the roof?
Thanksgiving.
Come on. Last week egg prices were $1.99 a dozen. Now they are back to $3.57 at Aldi and $2.49 at Ruler?
I'm sorry, but I am no longer falling for it. You can take your eggs and shove them where the sun doesn't shine. Thanksgiving or not I will refrain from using anything that requires eggs and be just fine with that.
You're not going to get me, fool.
This is sort of like the Middle East suddenly going to war before a major travel holiday weekend to shoot gas prices up. How convenient.

We buy six dozen at a time, so I have no idea what they are per dozen.

The price is crazy! I have chickens and that was one of the reasons I got them, to not have to pay those prices. However, with Fall and molting season, the chickens stop laying or do not lay normally like usual with an egg a day. So I had to go buy eggs to make desserts for Thanksgiving. I paid $5.78 for a dozen of brown eggs. Last week they were sold out of everything except $7.xx eggs and I said no way and walked off.
There is an outbreak of avian flu though. I am in a group and several members are losing chickens right now that have tested positive for avian flu. That should make you feel a little better.

@porwest You would have to have a nice size flock or let a hen go broody 1-2 x a year and sell chicks. Another thing to do is sell your extra eggs. I do that in the Spring/Summer at the flea market. That pretty much balances it out and/or puts you over the top. Having 1-10 chickens would probably not be worth it. I enjoy raising them and prefer the fresh eggs which are much larger than what you get out of the store normally, and tastier vs. store bought eggs.

In have always wondered, if you really did the math, does owning chickens to lay eggs really add up to savings? Considering there are costs to maintain the chickens of course. Because of course, you have to factor those costs in. Does it really add up?

I always thought they started wars in the Middle East to influence our elections. LOL
You know, with these egg prices it is getting very hard to go out and egg someone’s house!

Gas prices always go up before a holiday. Have a good Thanksgiving, albeit an eggless one.
