I was thinking about trying to do something nice for the military during the holidays and it made me remember when I was a young girl of about 5 or 6 I think. My mother and I were living with my grandparents at that time so I was with my grandmother most days. On this particular day, my grandmother had gathered up some of her best jams, jellies, and relishes in a box. She took my hand and we started out. We went to the Old Soldiers Home which was where the Veteran's Memorial Park is now. She and I entered the old building and she began to talk to some of the veterans who were sitting in the front area. Some of them talked to me a little bit. She left them all the things she had bought. They were all very thankful. This was in the mid-50s when you could do such things. It was a nice experience which I remember with fondness. They have torn down that old building and now there is a park with statues and monuments.

That was a nice gesture. We need to do more of that sort of thing.

I'm glad I have a memory so I can enjoy them. Some people my age don't.
