Sarah Josepha Hale, a 74 year old magazine editor had spent 36 years writing an extensive collection of articles and letters advocating for Thanksgiving being made a national holiday. A specific letter written on September, 28, 1863 has been said to be the reason behind President Lincolns October 3, 1863 proclamation making Thanksgiving a national day of gratitude. Sarah Hale is also famous for having written "Mary Had a Little Lamb."

Hubby said that Mary had a little lamb was the first thing that Edison recorded. Thanks for the history info.
