We have Turtles

We came home to find this turtle sitting in the walk way. We took photos and let him continue on his way. We are lucky to have such a variety of water creatures here. There are ponds out back and a lake I can walk to. Do you ever see turtles? What wild things live near you?

@RasmaSandra, I have to admit that he is kind of cute. Does he run free, or do you keep him in a cage? One of the ones fighting over noodles in my kitchen looked like a hamster. He was brown, and I wondered if someone let their hamster loose, and it took up residence with the possums.

I don't like possums. I found a baby one in my wastebasket once. I thought of keeping it for a pet but had no cage. I took it outside and let it go..

That’s a cute little thing. We don’t have a lot of reptiles around, but I always see foxes and rabbits. Years ago, I lived in front of the woods, and I’d see deer, coyotes, and bobcats. Opossums too, but those weren’t cute.

I agree that opossums are not cute. Once, I found a couple fighting over ramen noodles in my kitchen. I had to block the opening where they got in. I have seen deer and coyotes but not bobcats here. There don't seem to be too many deer here.

I lived somewhere where I heard fish and turtles and if you weren't careful the ducks would follow you into the apartment.

Ducks walking into the house made me laugh. I can just see it. I have seen wild ducks running around. They are muscovy ducks. I thought they were someone's pets but they just like running around the hood.

There are turtles around but none close by. You sometimes see road signs warning of turtles.

I have never seen a turtle in my neighborhood. I most see squirrels and birds near the trees in the neighborhood.

There are a lot of birds and squirrels here. I also see turtles quite often. I am always thrilled to see one though.

I have always loved turtles. I wonder how many of them I have moved off the roads over the years, to keep them from getting hit by a car. Most people know this--when you move a turtle from the road, take it to the direction it's going, not back where it came from. Otherwise, it will just start it's journey all over again!

@akalinus I can't stand it when I see them in the road. It's such a long trip for them, and if at all possible, I stop and move them along in the direction they are going...we always have a surplus of them everywhere in the spring.

I like turtles. This one was just sitting there. I have seen turtles swimming in the lake. If you don't bother the turtle, they won't bother you either.

Yes! Many wild animals. Actually my boyfriend seen a turtle crossing the road on our outing today. I live near a river.

We have deer, turkeys, foxes, raccoons, groundhogs, possums, rabbits, coyotes and geese. I've seen frogs but not turtles. Have a good day.

that's interesting, i've only seen turtles in aquarium or little ones as pets. only wild things you can see like that in Bosnia are foxes and boars

@aureategloom, I think hedgehogs are legal here. Kids keep them as pets. They banned the little red ear slider turtles because they give people salmonella and another infection that I forgot the name of.

They used to sell little turtles in stores in the US but I think they are illegal now. Boars are scary and foxes can bite.

@akalinus oh i didn't know that. they're still legal in Bosnia, along with hedgehogs as pets

people here don't like boars because they often ruin people's gardens and eat vegetables
