James(Jimmy) Earl Carter was our 39th president. He was a great humanitarian and a good human. He passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024 at his farm in Plains, Georgia. There are several things about this man that many of us may not realize. Here is a list of interesting facts: * He was married to his wife, Eleanor Rosalynn Carter for 77 years. She passed away on November 19, 2023. Jimmy will join her in a private ceremony under a willow tree on their property. * He was more than a peanut farmer. He was educated as a scientist. * Jimmy Carter was active in the Navy from 1946 until 1953. He was ranked as a lieutenant. He remained a reservist from 1953 until 1961. * He created the Department of Energy and signed into law the Department of Energy Organization Act on October 1, 1977. *He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for promoting human rights, economic and social development, and, seeking peaceful solutions to international conflicts. President Biden has declared January 9 as a National Day of Mourning. @kaylachan .....that's true and we forget so easily. He loved his wife. It's so romantic that they will both be buried under a willow tree on their property.

I have always considered him a stellar human being. He wasn't flashy, he strived to do his best, and he gave and gave to the US for many years--way up in his 90's, he was still building homes for Habitat for Humanity. Once while traveling, I saw him in a book store in South Carolina. I was honored to shake his hand, and get a smile and a greeting from Roslynn as well. My...that was a long time ago.

How nice. I wish we had more like them in the world. He is the very opposite of you know who. I don't even want to use his name in the same paragraph.

My condolences for Jimmy Carter. He lived a life where he fulfilled many things and his humanitarian spirit was quite great. His Nobel Peace prize and more are a testimony to that. Today our newspaper had a big section on his life. I also read that a village near Delhi has a name "Carterpuri". He had requested to adopt that village but the then PM of India said that it would be taken care of by the Government. That is another thing that village did not develop as expected. However, ignoring that it was good to read about his life & achievements.
