Can I Rant?

I am not a person who likes noise. Someone nearby has been doing some yard work. That included trimming some limbs. Good time for it I suppose. And, not like it was being done at 8:30a. as our maintenance people here start. But, nonetheless, it was loud and constant and irritating when you are trying to concentrate. That continuous saw drilling into my head for 40-50 minutes was not fun at all. I now have a bit of a headache from it. I hear it now off in the distance. Do they ever take a break?

I don’t like hearing loud noises for long periods either. Most of the time it is pretty quiet here, but occasionally it gets crazy loud.

It is here too so when there is noise it is doubly irritating.

Ugh! I would hate that. Being a night person early morning noise doesn't go over well.

I know how it is to hear noise that you’re not “supposed to hear.” Generally, it doesn’t bother me that much. You may not believe this, but when they replaced my roof I was able to roll over and go back to sleep while they were on my roof.

Interesting. You must have gotten used to the noise.

The older guy next door loves his riding mower and grass trimmer. He even mows in the Winter when the grass here is brown and nothing is growing. (A couple of years ago he was mowing the snow as it fell! I woke Pretty up so she could see it, too!) He mows his yard and my back yard every 4 days. (I have an electric mower and it gives up by the time I finish mowing the front and both side yards. Then it takes 4 hours to charge the battery again.) I mow in the afternoon to avoid dew on the grass so the back yard doesn't get mowed at the same time as I mow the front and side yard. He started mowing my back yard because he doesn't like seeing the grass looking ragged back there. He doesn't charge me for it so I don't say anything. Most of the time I'm asleep when he mows and that's fine... It doesn't wake me up. But every 4 days? (He's retired and bored.)

Mows in the winter? Interesting. I have heard of the electric mowers but have never seen one. I think we get used to sounds and they don't bother our sleep. I was just still in sleep mode and got woke up.

@DaddyEvil .........I can't see where the electric mowers are very good. Unless a person just has a very small yard. It would be frustrating not to be able to get the job done all at once. I hope you are able to get disability. So sorry about your eyes.

@celticeagle We have a two acre lot and can only mow 1/3 of it with a full battery charge when the grass isn't tall. I agree, the battery mower would be fine for a small yard. With our yard, it just doesn't work. Thanks.

You should be here. My cat Freddie sleeps all day and then in the late afternoon starts caterwauling loudly for quite a while and I have no idea why, I just shouted Would you shut up Freddie? He became quiet and now has started again,

Oh, dear. We have one cat that is very vocal. Dear Colby. He is usually outdoors. He comes in and comes through all the rooms doing the caterwauling thing. We love him just the same. The others are all quiet and just talk occasionally or when my grandson comes in the room. He is our cat whisperer.

@RasmaSandra .........We have them do that here sometimes. I think that winter seems to put them in sleep mode more.

@celticeagle I am sure that somehow Freddie and I will get along with each other, Just hate it when I get into bed and he starts up, While I am up it is annoying but not much of a problem,

That is a good question since I am sure that the maintenance people have a lot of work to do in a short time which causes them to work long hours.

@celticeagle I had neighbours who only mowed their lawn after dark because it recovered more quickly that way (!!!). And in summer it doesn’t get dark till 11pm So just as we were going to bed their high-pitched, whiny lawn mower started up for half an hour.

I hate that sort of thing as well! Three of our four neighbours have the same gardener and I have never seen him actually plant anything but he loves his power tools, he has a mower, a hedge trimmer, a power saw, a leaf blower and a strimmer and he just uses them all one after the other. If he isn't in one neighbour's garden he's in the other. Drives me mad. I even wear ear defenders so I can concentrate - if he looks at my window he can probably see me sitting there glowering!

I think they were using all you mentioned at the same time. I have ear plugs but am too lazy to get up and go find them.
