I forgot to mention in my post about the baby clothes that these were worn by one, two or all of her three little girls. She did all her own sewing and knitting and made some lovely items. I find it a bit sad that none of the daughters wanted any of these. They are all in their 50s now. One has no children; one has four boys and the other two boys and a married daughter. Maybe they’ve already chosen a few special pieces. And now I have the chance to put up a photo of a baby shawl that was amongst the items.

That is sad. I remember when I was little we had a “baby dress” that my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather had worn as newborns. I don’t know what has become of it.

Some christening gowns were worn down through the years, weren't they? I don't know if that happens any more.

I agree. You put something of yourself into anything you make.

@JudyEv You would think she would be thrilled to get it and cherish it! What's wrong with these later generations?

@kareng We started life with all second-hand furniture and very little of it. Nowadays, they want a new house and all new furniture.

I might check with one daughter in case her daughter might like it. She is the only girl in the downline now.

It is not necessary that only family should get those clothes. There will be more in need around you

So much love and hard work went into making that piece of art. It's lovely.

It has definitely had quite a bit of use but it's still in good condition.

That is such a pretty shawl! I love handmade items like that. Sad they didn’t want them but you are right they could have already picked through and taken things.

It has a blue edging but the family only had three girls. The shawl has certainly been used quite a lot.

Some trends that used to be a norm till some time back are no more. Trends & people preferences keep in changing a lot.

@JudyEv Some Liquid detergents in the market claim to be Baby clothing safe. If even 80% of their claim is right, it can help a lot of people. Yet they are a bit costlier than normal detergents.

@JudyEv And handwashing a lot of clothes is a challenge, even in the summer time.

Some of the babywear required careful laundering. Many young mums don't have the time for that, especially if they're trying to hold down a job as well.

I feel sure they have. It's nearly four years now. I know the girls all took their favourite recipe books. Their Mum was a great cook.

Yeah, I'm sure the daughters chose other pieces and had to leave these. That's a lovely shawl.

I would think that is the case. There is still a great deal of stuff in the house that needs to be sorted through.
