Kaftan is an all purpose outfit It can be worn for occasions, worn during the day and also during the night
If it is just for night wear then one need not go for anything that is costly and if it is for an occasion then surely there are kaftans that are made of pure silk and stuff.
I wear kaftans during day time and I look pretty dressed to welcome visitors.
The one that you see in the image is meant for nightwear. Pretty cheap

I love kaftans. I made one decades ago to use during winter. I wish I knew what became of it. I told Claudia once about it and she brought me a very lovely thin one from Spain. I still need the thick one to use to go and open the door in winter.

@allknowing They got misplaced, and my apartment gets so hot now that even a kaftan makes me too warm for comfort,

Yeah, the one in the picture looked like a night gown to me.
I wear pants the majority of times but wouldn't mind wearing a kaftan on a special occasion.
