Let's delve into some facts about them individually shall we? Here the low down: * There are 7 recognized families of bees in the world. Andrenidae, Apidae, Megachilidae, Melittidae, Colletidae, Halictidae, and Stenotritidae. Apidae is the largest family with over 5,700 species. * There are approximately 20,000 species of bees in the world. Some species have gone extinct. Many species are locally extinct but are still threatened globally. * There are about 2 trillion bees in the world currently. 81 million is the estimated number of honey bee colonies with about 100 million managed beehives. * Bees are nearly everywhere in the world but the hot spots are the arid and temperate regions like South American, South Africa and the southwestern states. Anywhere there are flowering plants you will find them. * Bees live mostly on pollen and nectar but some eat carrion and some even drink human sweat. The picture is from ar.inspiredpencil.com
