Ancient Egypt ~ Keeping Their Lineage Strong

I love ancient Egypt and all of its history. I found in my research that not only did ancient Egypt's elite marry within their own families, many times brothers and sisters, but so did the families of ordinary people. Not only did siblings marry but those adopted into the family to keep property from leaving the household. This was not only done to preserve wealth but to retain cultural identity. This was not unique. This practice was common in Spain, with the Incas, and European monarchs were known to marry within the family as it was thought to keep the power strong. It did just the opposite and in Tutankhamun's case, he was born with both a club foot and a cleft pallet. The picture is from Pinterest.co.kr
