Short of free shipping minimum

I wanted to buy two books on Amazon. To my luck I end up being a few bucks short of the $35 minimum to qualify for free shipping. I have to pay $6.99 for delivery.
Since one of the books is 49% off I should just pay the $6.99 but I can’t bring myself to do that. I don’t want to pay for shipping.
I’d buy toilet paper as I need that but I wanted to use my Amazon gift card (I got for my birthday) to pay for the order. I don’t want to spend the gift card on toilet paper. Guess I won’t be buying these books right now. Unless I find something else I need that I’d want to use the gift card on.

Is there another book you could buy to make up the shortfall?

I did. Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. It was $9 and change.

Getting another book did the trick but probably I didn’t really save money as it was around $9.

My gift cards usually cover cat food and a little something for myself and I manage to get free shipping. How about some cans of food or soda?
