Let’s see…thus far we’ve had country, R&B, folk, and rock and roll to celebrate the music of 1985. What’s missing? I know: zydeco!!! Got it covered today as we go back 40 years. Here’s today’s song. My Toot-Toot - Rockin’ Sidney Here’s one of those songs that can mean a whole lot of things. You’d think that, by 1985, you wouldn’t have a need for a double entendre in a song. But hey, Cajun and zydeco is a whole different ballgame. I first heard this song when John Fogerty did it at the end of a Showtime special highlighting his comeback album (which, hint hint, came out in 1985 ). Of course I had to find the original, and that led me to Rockin’ Sidney! Born Sidney Simien in 1938, he grew up in the right place for musical gumbo: Louisiana. He had regional success as an R&B singer, but it was this song that made him a celebrity. It started out, like so many other songs, a regional song, then it got heard during Mardi Gras…and the next thing you know, Simien was on Showtime with John Fogerty! He also won a Grammy award for this song. Simien died from throat cancer in 1998. He did a lot more, as most musicians do, than this song, but this one (covered over two dozen times through the years) is his lasting legacy. My Toot-Toot Written by Sidney Simien Recorded by Rockin’ Sidney From My Toot-Toot, 1985 She was born in her birth suit:

That was a fun song back in the day. It reminds me of Hunter Hayes, who started performing at age 1, also from Louisiana. He's grown now and I'm not sure if he is still playing the accordian or not. He is still entertaining though. He played like 10 instruments by the time he was 12! Here's a clip from when he was 7 singing Jambalaya! Have you heard of him before?

@FourWalls Yes, he has several albums out now. I'm sure he has made a good bit on money through the years. He was on television as early as one year old.

Oh, yes, I’ve heard of him. He’s supposedly proficient on just about every music instrument ever made!
