People can be so cruel.

Most of you know, a year and a half ago, George, my husband suffered a stroke. He was in the hospital for two months, and until last August, we still had Chilly our cat. I have several discussions on this, documenting our story. When George had his stroke, our life changed. Both our worlds were turned upside down. We had to adopt new routines, and suddenly we had expenses that we weren't expecting. I begun to rely on delivery. I begun using ride share, I started getting more deliveries to the house on a regular basis. Because The va's mail system isn't relyable, some of those things were syringes and medicl supplies. I still get disposable underwear for George because he's... well incontenent for lack of a better term. and I also added several television subscriptions because we were watching far more t.v. since George'd been home from the hospital. The list goes on. Basically, we adopted a new normal, and I kept up with the bills until I couldn't. Because I wasn't using some cards, our credit limit was cut. I had to pay big money I wasn't expecting because our savings went to trying to stay out of debt. We don't have the money we used to. Which brings me back to what happened today. Our neighbor made an off-handed comment, about our lawn needing to be cuut. Then suggested we pay for it. Bare in mind, last year a neighbor, helped out for free, refusing anything that George tried to offer. I made the mistake of mentioning they helped us for free, and this guy let me have it. Saying that I should be able to pay for lawn care. And, why should I have special treatment, when every one else has to pay. I tried to explain we can't afford it right now, but he went on, about how we have to have money, because I was taking lyft and uber everywhere, everyday. And that Amazon was coming around all the time. But, never thought to ask why. He never offered to take me shopping for supplies the VA wouldn't cover. He never really thought to ask about howw we were doing (after George came home). Now he did drive me to the hospital and pick me up a few times, while George was in the hospital, but now he seems to think I was taking advantage of him. When he used our van, and our gas to drive me. I let him, so nothing came out of pocket for him. Hell, he didn't even offer to take me to a gas station to fill the tank. Which okay fine, he only took me back and forth for a week so.... didn't loose much. And it set idol for a year before George decided to drive. Hell it wasn't until we had to get a battery for the van, George even knew I had to use our savings to pay bills. Including the home owner insurance, and to keep the van insured I continued to pay the car insurance, too. So yeah.... This is the same neighbor who bragged when he bought the house he's not paying property taxes, not paying home owner insurance.... things I pay anually without fail.

That guy is a nasty slob. You have way too much on your plate. I suppose some folks near me wonder how and why I pay for DoorDash from time to time. (I don't always feel good enough to drive let alone walk through a store.) Sometimes living in town with neighbors can really be a bummer. I'm sorry. I hope you can figure out a way to turn your back when the guy approaches you.

I'd been using walmart delivery for over a year, because I couldn't drive or get what we needed on my own. Guy didn't have the decency to approach us, it was a shouting match between our homes.

@sallypup Yeah. I know. It's not like we're pennyless, but it's prioritizing spending which is what I'm having to do.

You have to just block idiots and rude people from your mind. Don't socialize with him. Just say hi, if he speaks and keep going. He seems to be quite an @ss.

I typically don't let people get to me, but I also have to think of George, too. And, I know it bothers him that he can't mow the lawn.

@kaylachan Maybe you can find a teenager that won't charge an arm and a leg? Just a thought!

@kareng I've decided to not worry about the yard, unless someone tries calling code enforcment on us. Our lawn is dry, and a lot of sand. Plus, we don't want to deal with strangers in or. around our home.

People are so thoughtless. This neighbor you speak of sounds like a real piece of work. Is he married? I pity his wife. Or maybe she's like him. I'm so sorry you don't have better people around you. It's time like what you are going through now that you find out who your friends are and who are not. I used to be friendly and nice, and after a few things have happened, I just would rather stay in my room than put up with people. Braggers have little else going for them. Just a good brag.

I did, for the most part, but I know how it made George feel without him saying a word.

I am never been close to anyone to let them have such comments. If they are to make such comments, they have to make sure that it is a fact or I will sue them for slandering.

Well, I live in the U.S. and we have freedom of speach. Our neighbors can say what they want, and the fact he lives next door. Welll. Yeah.
