Giving a New Look to an Old Sofa

I bought this second hand couch from an appliance store in our area at a much cheaper price. I like the size of the sofa because it would perfectly fit in a small house that we are renting in this place. Upon checking, I discovered that its cover is already faded and there some stain which I could no longer remove even if I tried to brush it off with soap and water.
I decided to sew a new cover to give it a new look during my day off at work. I am happy with the result and here it is now.
Do you also buy second hand items?

@jobelbojel Yes, there are shops that focus on reupholstery works. Most of their work are car seats. They have especial machines for that purpose.

@ARIES1973 You did have to hire an expert to do that. At home, my father hired a worker to change to sofa cover into leather.

Thank you so much. The cover is removable so I can wash it when needed. Sewing sofa cover is one of the most difficult to sew so I seldom accept this kind of work before.

Thank you so much for the appreciation. It's been my dream to have my own hi speed sewing machine so I can sew different items. I was able to buy 3 single hi speed machines and 1 edging or overlock machine in 2023. I set up an online store and started a business while I have my full time job in the government. It was difficult but the earning is good and I was growing my market. At the end of 2023, I received an order from the regional office that I have to report to another town at the start of 2024.
Because of my new work assignment which requires more than an hour of travel one way, I had to stop my business because I was just starting and I couldn't find someone to manage it. So as of now, I am just sewing whenever I have free time and I don't accept orders because I'm afraid I could not deliver.

You did a great job! Looks very professional.
Yes, I buy used items. I like to refinish furniture when I can. It gives something old a new life, and I like older furniture.

You have done a really good job covering the sofa and giving it a nice new look.
We buy second hand items all the time.
Recent purchases included a 2 seater sofa and 2 matching chairs
A Varichef cooking appliance.
A hedgetrimmer
Most of the stuff in our house is second hand.
Quite pleased as I know how much money new stuff costs and at our time of life new doesn't matter.

We have a huge second hand goods warehouse about half a mile from where we live. It sells everything and anything you can think of. It's a great place to wander round and explore.

Thank you. I used the leftover fabrics I have. When I was accepting orders from customers, I still have those fabrics and I can still use those for future projects.

I had to consider the size of the living room of the house we are renting when buying a living room set. Most of the brand new are just too big and are very costly. So when I see this small pieces of sofa set (it's a 3-piece set) I decided to buy this instead because of the big cut in the price and the size. Honestly, sewing a cover for sofa is the most difficult for me. It is easier to sew bed sheet, pillow case and curtains.

Yes, my purse is second hand. I got it at the GoodWill store. It was in fairly good condition, though now that I've had it two or three years the fake leather is starting to split at the bottom. The inside layer is still secure so there's nothing coming out.

You are so handy with things like this.
I no longer buy second hand items here in this place as there is too much of a chance of unwanted mites or bugs in the items.
Colorado is rampant with this..shame as there are so useful and cheap items.
I like the look of what you did there.

Thank you for the appreciation. I can do some sewing projects during my free time. I can sew simple items like curtains, pillow cases, fitted bed sheets, etc. I even started an online shop but I stopped when I was assigned in another town last 2024. I still sew but not as often as before. My customers are even asking when I will resume sewing.

Thank you for the appreciation! I also sew items for giveaways like scrunchies. I hope to find more time in the coming days. I am planning to stick on to one item rather than accepting orders. I want to reactivate my online shop.
