Hopefully a 'before' photo

The photo shows an area at my niece’s where I intend to plant some vegetable seedlings. Hopefully, at the end of our stay here I’ll be able to show you an ‘after’ photo. There is shade-cloth over the area to keep the fierce summer sun from burning the plants but now that summer is over, the plants will need as much as they can get so tomorrow I’ll take the shade-cloth down. Her Dad says it’s okay to take it down as I don’t want to upset my niece by rearranging too much of her garden.

This area is quite shaded so I might just plant some herbs here. The shade-cloth is attached very well and looks like it's intended to be permanent.

@JudyEv I was hoping to plant my bush beans soon, but I guess maybe the seeds are too old. They are refusing to germinate..

@snowy22315 I've known of some very old seeds that did germinate but I guess many have a use-by date.

Her father assures us that she'll be pleased to see some vegie plants. I guess if she's not happy we won't get asked to house-sit again.

This little garden looks pretty. I am sure it will be much nicer after you have planted some vegetables there. Hope your niece will like her new garden soon.

Vince is worried we're taking over but I'm not planting heaps of things. And we're sort of okaying it with her Dad as we go. We're also in touch with her quite often.

@JudyEv Wish these pots can be used well. Sometimes it is very easy to put some seeds inside and the plants will grow well.

I hope it works out well for you. My daughter is in Arizona. She has quite the time with her garden due to the intense heat.

@JudyEv Daughter is a thinker. She adapts; finds plants from all over the map that will grow in her desert climate.

I can imagine how difficult it is to keep plants alive when it's so hot.

Some of the shade is firmly fixed so I might plant herbs in this area.

I planted silver beet and lettuce today but not in this garden. I've planted them in troughs that I've moved into the sun.

I've planted lettuce and silver beet so far but put them in troughs. I might plant herbs in the square bed.

We only took down one section of shade-cloth. The other is attached too well so we don't think they'd want it taken down. I've planted six lettuce and six rainbow chard (silver beet).
