I think it might actually be for the seniors too but in this post I am talking about the staff. This year we started wearing our college sweatshirts on the first Thursday of every month to try to promote conversations with the students about college. I was all for it because it gave me yet one more excuse to wear a hoodie and jeans to work.
That being said I am not a huge fan of pushing college on students who can't or don't want to do it. There is nothing wrong with working in a trade like an electrician, plumber, welder, etc. Still I participate because, well, hoodie and jeans.
I was talking to my work BFF and even a student today about how I never know how to dress for work. Now that we have new HVAC units *with AC* the temperature of the classroom is somewhat stable and doesn't necessarily reflect the outside temps. Granted a room that is at 73 degrees F while you are having a hot flash isn't fun in April on a 50 degree F day but I never know what to wear. Sweater? Polo? Long-sleeved T?
For example today I wore a short sleeved science-themed t-shirt that depicts a double helix and says "Life is twisted". I figured it was going to be 77 degrees and the heat was off now that it is post-April 15. I thought I'd be good. Nope. THE FREAKING AIR CONDITIONING WAS BLASTING ALL DAY.
I pulled a throw blanket out of a cabinet and wrapped it around me. A student asked me why I had a blanket in the room. I told her that ironically I need it for the warm months and not the cold ones.
So tomorrow is the sweatshirt day. Perfect. Now that the AC is blasting up in that joint I'll be able to wear it comfortably in my classroom.
This is the one that I have

Oh no the AC blasting Chicaa.
That happened to us once in a cinema in KS..absolutely frozen with the AC on a 100F day.
Couldn't stay to finish the movie it was so cold.
You went to Sacred Heart?

So, when someone asks you where you went to college and you say SHU, do they think you're being rude?
Seriously, you should dress in layers.

And the freaking new windows! They have screens. YAY! The students won't flip the hell out of a yellow jacket or bee flies in. The windows open 2 inches. NAY! Literally no airflow.
Every time we have a lockdown I have to remind students that we could be stuck in the room for hours and they are all like "nah we are jumping out of the windows" b/c I'm on the 2nd floor. I'm like "first of all you are not Spiderman and secondly go see how far those windows open." That shuts them up.

I remember boiling when we returned to school in September. No screens, no AC, windows wide open, sun streaming in....my head was swimming from the heat. I'm glad most schools have AC now.

Society couldn't cope without all the tradies - plumbers, carpenters, etc.
