I had one landlord that had a two bedroom rambler style home that had one bathroom and a fireplace. Off the living room was the laundry room with a door that went to a fenced back yard. However outside that door he had the frame work for another room.
The framework was just walls and a doorway going outside. So I told him that I would buy screen and a screen door and put up there. And when we moved he could keep it or I would remove it which ever way her wanted. He said no that I was going to ruin his son's "Dream Home". I was thinking that boy must be having night mare's if this is his dreamhome!
He was only about ten at the time.
When we moved in there the second day my son was taking a bath and he pulled the plug out and not all the water would drain out. I checked to make sure a wash rag didn't get stuck in there, (just in case another one had fallen in there). I called the landlord and he insisted that my kids did something to it. In the 2 days since we signed the lease? He said yes. I told him we just finished getting everything moved in today so this is the first time we have use the bath or shower, now my other son doesn't get a bath. He said you should told your other son he should of thought about that before destroying the drain! I asked him to call a plumber. He said, "Fine, but your paying for it and hung up." The next day the plumber came and he kept running the snake down till it wouldn't go any farther, he had to go out to his truck and get the long snake. He said, "Whatever is in here it had to of been in here 6 months! He pulled a diaper out! He called the landlord and told him that he owed him not me because he had found a diaper in there. The landlord tried to swear that it was one of my boys. The plumber started laughing because my boys were 8 and 5 years old! Then the landlord told the man he didn't care how old they were, they had to be wearing diapers. The plumber told him that it was deep enough down that it had been down there for at least 6 months!
He paid the plumber, but told me that if I didn't have the city come out and check that there was a back up in the sewer in one week I was going to have to repay him for the plumber. I was on HUD at the time and was told that I had to do whatever he said! Well the city came out and said there was no back up! I also talked to my next door neighbor that said that the previous renter was a woman with a baby!
The back yard was patchy, mostly dirt. I was going to pay with my own money to put in grass seed and plant flowers along the fence, add some color to the yard. He said no that the neighbors would complain!
I went to every neighbor that could see my back yard and asked them. Everyone of them laughed and asked me if that's what that itty it told me. I told them about me wanting to screen that room. And was told it was a great idea and said he has told that to every renter "the neighbors will complain" !
Then the trash was picked up on Tuesdays. One Tuesday he called my work to tell me that he went by the house and my trash cans were still on the curb! He went by the house because a neighbor called him and complained. That I have to leave work and come home every Tuesday and bring the can's in. And I asked him since he was there why couldn't he do it ? He said it wasn't his job and unless I did he would report me to HUD
Again I was told I had to do what he said. Therefore I had to drive 20 miles, using my gas at my lunch break to bring the trash can's in the yard. I noticed my next door neighbors were home late on Tuesdays and didn't take their can's in till 10:00 PM!
I had a friend that was a truckdriver and he was in town and came and spent the weekend with us. My landlord again said that a neighbor complained about a truck being in my driveway. He said that if he see's it or get's a complaint about it again he would have it towed!
So I had to tell my friend he couldn't come over any more!
One time a squirrel came down the chimney of the fireplace and was running around the house. I called animal control and it took them over an hour to get the thing out. After that I was told to tell my landlord that he needs to put a cover on the chimney. He said if I really wanted one that I need to buy one and put it up there. I asked him to put it in writting and he refused!
When my son was in the hospital and I had to stay with him he said the "patchy" grass had to be mowed and said the guy charged him $60 which I had to pay him back.
Then when it came to resign the lease he said no because I was a bad tenant and he told HUD that too!

I would have been telling him I wasn't signing another rental with him because he was a bad landlord and moved out as soon as the first rental agreement was up! He was a piece of shiite!
