I love asparagus. Steamed or fried-- I'm all for it. Add some onion, olive oil and garlic, and it's so good. k
So, I thought I'd do some research and post what I found.
Asparagus plants can be productive for 15-30 years. The best spot to grow it is on the north edge of a garden, both to be away from other plants and avoid shading other plants.
It needs 6-8 hours of sun daily and well-drained, fertile soil with slightly acidic soil of about 6.5.
The roots can spread, so ample space between plants is important so the plants aren't in competition with each other. Raised beds can provide the necessary drainage if poor-draining soil is an issue. Since asparagus can produce for so long it is a good idea to plant it in a permanent location where there won't be a need to move it later on.
Alliums like onions, garlic, leeks, and potatoes are not good choices for companion planting since they can negatively affect each other's growth. They will negatively affect each other's growth.

I will eat asparagus if I have to. Not a favorite. What about its health details? Is it really good for you?

My ex and I used to know right when they would be popping up, and we drove out to the farming areas where we got it every year along the ditch banks. Scads of it. We'd bring home grocery bags half full. We'd freeze it and have it all year.
