Black smoke at the Vatican

Black smoke was just seen billowing from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel. That means that the first round of voting for a new pope has occurred and no one received the required 2/3 majority. It is estimated that 30,000 people were packed into St. Peter's Square waiting to see the smoke. Tomorrow there will be 2 votes in the morning and 2 votes in the evening if necessary. It will be interesting to see how many votes it takes until a new pope is selected.

Yes after each vote they burn the ballots. They add chemicals to make the smoke either black or white. Black = no pope and white = a pope has been selected.

Who are the contenders? Not that I know any of them anyway.

I had heard the casual mention of the black smoke, but I don’t believe I remembered what it signified.

We found a site with a camera trained on the chimney. We could sit here all day and watch if if we felt so inclined.

I don't know anything about the candidates other than Trump. :-)
