I'm glad I am not one of the many who these little pests love to visit and harass constantly during summer activities outside. I don't need an excuse to plant things, but it is nice to know certain ones I have planted are keeping the mosquitoes at bay and is all natural, no chemicals. Here is a list of some plants that repel them and smell good, too. * Rosemary - Plant in a dry place where it will get full sun. Let it dry out between waterings. * Basil - This herb attracts bees and deters mosquitoes. It also enhances the flavor of other plants. * Lemon Balm - This lovely smelling plant has a compound called citronellal which is similar to citronella. It's a good idea to plant this one in a pot because of it invasive nature. Once it is planted, it will spread quickly. * Catnip - More effective than bug sprays, it has an essential oil in it, nepetalactone, which is so powerful it takes only one-tenth as much as the insect repellent DEET. * Marigolds - With red, yellow, and orange fragrant flowers, these are great to plant near known mosquito entry points. You can also place pots of the flower around your deck or other outside areas. Also, being sure that barrels, wading pools, buckets, dishes, under pots, and wheelbarrows have no water sitting in them is a good help in deterring these insects. The picture is from my collection.

It's helpful to plant these around the place. Mosquitoes can be a real curse.

I usually have most. I always have rosemary because it's also great for an anti inflammatory.

We are planting mosquito plants on the property as well. We're also doing clover covering and going to build bat houses. We are going to be near a river once moved and they can get fierce.

I used to have a Citronella plant, but it wilted. It’s a common ingredient in mosquito repellent oils, sprays, and lotions because of its strong scent that mosquitoes can’t stand. Definitely a natural way to keep those bugs away! Hopefully, I can try growing another one soon.

Mosquitoes are such a problem. In Florida they are little and black and aggressive. The Ohio ones like to buzz in my ear which is annoying as they try to bite my face.
