To those from the USA, what can you say of the first American Pope?

Well congrats, America for having the first American Pope after 2000 years of history of the Catholic Church. It's a big day for America and many Americans were feasting. President and Vice President Vance congratulated Pope Leo X1V ahead of others. President Trump already flew to Vatican to meet the new Pope and talk with him secretly. China also congratulated the new pope despite being a communist county. President Xi hoped that the church leader in the world can make a change.
Thanks for reading. Sharing is caring.

At the same time, people in other parts of the Americas generally do not call themselves Americans. They call themselves whatever they are. For example, Pope Francis would not have called himself and American. He'd have called himself a Porteño. Chileans call themselves Chileans. Mexicans call themselves Mexicans. Columbians call themselves Columbians and so on so forth.
Not that I am disagreeing with anything you are saying on a technical level. But when they say, "The first American Pope," they are quite literally referring to the first Pope who is from the United States, and I think everyone understands what is meant by this.
But, for some odd reason, it's become an argument.

@LadyDuck People can use the term any way they want, of course, and I take no issue with it. But this IS a bit of a semantic argument because it is clear that however you classify the new Pope, he is the first Pope from the United States, and thus, since citizens of the United States call themselves Americans, and the world recognizes us as Americans, not "People from the U.S.," or as Looeyville put it, "United Statesians," really the argument that this ISN'T the first American (from the United States) and somehow making that less significant in the broader argument seems...
Rather weird to me. lol
I mean, to me, in the context of things Pope Francis was not the first American Pope. He was a Pope from Buenos Aires. And again it's CLEAR what is meant by the first "American" Pope considering Leo is, infact, from the United States, and that's the only meaning of the word "American" in his case. it can mean no other thing than "United States American."
In THAT context he is, in fact, the first American Pope. End of story. I am not sure what the point is to argue this isn't the case here, nor what is meant by "the first American."
Like I said, it's just weird to me. lol

1) I am not Catholic and 2) I am not religious. But here's my thought. Does it really matter where a Pope is from? Or does it matter more what that Pope DOES? Good people and bad people, smart people and dumb people come from all parts of the world. So, where someone is from, to me, in the end, has no bearing or meaning other than to say someone is from somewhere.
The new Pope will not be judged on where he was born, but rather on what he does while he's the Pope.

The city of Chicago is going crazy over it. Last night the White Sox (baseball team) congratulated him on the message board before the game started. (The White Sox won the game, so hey, maybe their season turns around now!
)
I’m not Catholic, but I want him to be a man of God and a moral compass…two things we need desperately in this world.

@RasmaSabdra, yeah let's wait and see but hopefully Pope Leo X1V can do his tasks well with God and people who love him.
