Just too creepy!

This electric car is just too creepy for me. The actual driving experience is OK, in fact it’s quite nice once you get used to the differences between an electric motor and an internal combustion engine – but all the electronics give me the creeps.
Today as I was driving along, not doing anything in particular, just holding the steering wheel and not touching anything else, the car suddenly blurted out, very loudly and apropos of nothing at all, “PLEASE WAIT A MOMENT!”
Big One and I both jumped and said ‘What?’ and the car said ‘Pardon? Activating voice control’. Luckily at that point I found a button to turn it off again.
Also when reversing it has cameras and guidelines which I guess could be useful, but today when I did a three-point turn it didn’t go back into forward mode so as I was driving along it still showed the view from the backwards-facing camera, which was a bit disorientating.
It has sensors which beep at you if it thinks you are close to some sort of obstruction, so when we turn out into our little lane it doesn't like that at all and makes a terrible fuss.
It also tries to keep you in lane, so if for example you deviate across the centre of the road to pass a parked car you find yourself literally wrestling the steering wheel, which is really quite frightening when you’re not expecting it.
We are thinking of looking for a middle-aged used car while we still have the chance to find one that doesn’t have all this electronic stuff!

All the alarms and things drive me nuts. Yesterday I took some friends for an outing. The locking thing that stops others opening their doors and windows kept switching on and I had to turn if off three times during the journey. Then a reading light at the back turned itself on just randomly and we couldn't work out how to turn it off. Also the voice-activated system would just suddenly start up as I described in the post. We couldn't work out what initiated it, the guess was that there was some sort of trigger word but my friends ended up trying all the words we had recently used (which was really hilarious - I mean I found it hard to believe the word might be 'internal combustion engine' or 'Catholic chaplaincy') and it didn't respond.
Annoyingly the one basic thing I can't seem to find is a basic mileometer. Normally you expect to be able to look at the dashboard and see what speed you are doing and how far you have gone. I can see the speed, the time of day, the lane guidance system, an annoying message telling me that navigation is not activated, how much charge is left, how far since the last charge, how long since the last charge, and various other messages and things I don't understand, but I wasn't able to see how far it was from the junction to the car park!

@JudyEv The alarms all drive me mad (obviously these things are not limited to electric cars, a lot of modern cars have the same systems). Yesterday as I was driving along a narrow country road I met a bus. We had to carefully squeeze past each other and as I was doing so the car was going BEEEEEEEEEEP!! the entire time.
As if driving someone else's almost-new and very expensive car past a bus on a narrow road is not stressful enough already! I mean I knew there was a great big bus there!

It seems like your car is so smart that it doesn’t even bother letting you make decisions anymore. Sure, you’re holding the steering wheel, but let’s be honest, the computer is probably laughing in binary as it takes charge. The CPU programming must be so strict that it feels like the car has a mind of its own, leaving you cringing as it smugly makes all the decisions for you.

A car that fought my steering of it would be going back to the owner, whether I had something else to drive or not. That's plain dangerous if it decided to do that at a bad time! What happens if a kid runs into the street in front of you and the car doesn't want to dodge around him? Scary thought there!

There is always a learning curve with any new car, but that one seems like it might be hard to get used to. Nonetheless, if they come down in price, alot of us might own one someday. I would need one though that goes a long way on a charge.

I can drive both a manual and automatic cars but never tried an electric car. Our place is just starting on having policies with ebikes. i think it will still take time before we could have this type of vehicle in our place. Or maybe there are already electric cars on the road and i just don't notice. Thank you for the heads up.
