First, let’s me wish a very happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmoms, and fur moms out there. For those of us who remember our mothers today, may their memories be a blessing. Fifty years ago I was discovering rock and roll and introducing my mom to Elton John (a lot of which she became a lifelong fan of). But Elton will be along later. Here’s today’s song from 1975. Old Tennessee - Dan Fogelberg You’re probably thinking, “Huh, didn’t he just pop up in 1979 with ‘Longer’ and hang around for a couple of years?” Oh, no. This was from his third album. The big hit didn’t come along for another three albums. Dan Fogelberg’s breakthrough was one of those that split his fan base. Most of the people who loved this album and/or the one before and after it (Souvenirs and Nether Lands, respectively) really loathed Phoenix (and that sappy “Longer” song). The people who loved “Longer” have never heard this album, most likely (I expect a lot of “never heard it” replies), and therefore don’t know WHY Fogelberg fans were pissed at him for “Longer.” This is a beautiful folk song that shows his true skills. Oh, and to highlight further skills, he also painted the cover art. I’d rather have this than “Longer.” Any day. Old Tennessee Written by Dan Fogelberg Recorded by Dan Fogelberg From Captured Angel, 1975 Her husband’s way down in Georgia:

Thanks, I hope you also had a good Mom's day. I don't remember this guy. I can't recall hearing any of his songs probably because by 1975 I no longer listened to the radio and whats worse is when MTV came along I didn't have cable so I couldn't watch that either.

Think I’ll listen to Nether Lands tonight, it’s been a while. I love Donna Summer’s cover of the title song on the Fogelberg tribute album.

Oh, really?! Jimmy Buffett appeared on his tribute album and you never heard of him? (Buffett’s version of “There’s a Place in the World for a Gambler”)
