The view you don’t normally get

On our recent outing we visited a garden where there were some peacocks. And one of them obligingly displayed his glorious tail for us to admire (well really not for us, but for the benefit of a nearby peahen who I have to say looked most unimpressed). The funny thing though was that as he strutted his stuff, we got a glimpse of his back view. He had a wonderfully fluffy bottom which it was so tempting to touch. Watching the children trying to sneak up behind him to pat his fluffy feathers was just hilarious! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

@fleura I was similarly assaulted yesterday on Moni Island. What was funnier (?) was the display put on by human peacocks trying to impress human peahens on the beach. Flashy feathers were on full display but no interest was shown by the ladies. Same with the deer that walked among us. One frisky buck tried his luck with many a doe but he soon learned that no means no and he retreated.

Some things don't change obviously, even throughout evolution!

I know about their fluffy bottoms. Very tempting indeed. Mum bred a few on the farm when I was little. Another source of 'pin money' for her.

When we first moved here our neighbour didn't like our chickens - he thought we were bringing down the town of the neighbourhood. I seriously considered getting peacocks as surely those would be posh enough but would also be really annoying!

@Fleura They would really have got up his nose. It took us a while to get used to their shrieking.

Thanks for sharing, not sure I ever saw a rear view of a peacock! I have a friend who has some for pets, but they are the peahens actually, and don't have the gorgeous foilage.

Sometimes a peacock displays its tail for competing in beauty with people in colourful clothes.

Peacocks always turn around when they feel the ground shake to see what's sneaking up behind them. I bet the girls had fun trying to sneak up on him, though.

The poor chap had to keep turning around. Birds can normally see almost all the way around themselves but of course with his tail up he couldn't!

@Fleura Exactly! I'm sure you had fun watching him trying to watch them.

Not so sure he would have liked his wonderfully fluffy bottom touched by anyone other than the peahen .....
