We owe the British and Asians a great fortune

During lunchbreak I watched a reel highlighting an early 20th Century east Africa. It was around the time when the British were constructing the Uganda Railway. This later became a very important infrastructure that linked the interior to the coast. Most of the current important towns were started by Indians who used their wages to start businesses. In Nairobi for instance, there still stands a 1 storey building with inscriptions showing it was built in 1919. That must have been part of the first 10 permanent structures in Nairobi. Initially, the dominant precolonial currency was rupee. Later the pennies, cents and shillings took over. It was the British who brought Indians to East Africa as labourers, then Indians began formalizing trade. It is trade that currently sustains 7 out of 10 households in Kenya currently. Jobs are scarce. With these thoughts and reflections, I believe we as Kenyans do owe the British and Indians a great fortune.
