Mental Health Awareness month

Today I was in the farm from 5am to 8am. I did some slashing, then weeding and lastly thinning. As I was thinning my sugarcanes, I was also listening to a morning show on a local radio station. They were discussing mental health and from it I learnt that the US, which has been observing May as a Mental Health month for over 7 decades is one of the leading countries globally in matters of assisting its citizens to cope with mental issues. The guest disclosed that Counselling services are government sponsored in America, unlike in Kenya, where even health insurance doesn’t cover mental illness. Is your country observing this mental health awareness week? Is your government supportive to mental illness patients?

@Scarred4Lyfe I bet you are right. Mostly mental problems are brought about by very many factors. Not just financial issue.

@Scarred4Lyfe I don't think I will agree to it. Nobody who has mental health problems agrees to having it, so I have to follow the norm. LOL

Your government is great. Here in Kenya, it will just ignore you, let you suffer or commit crimes related to mental health then react when it is too late

I doubt that shrink services are free in the US. I think they get about 20000 USD budget so it maybe within that. No...India does not have mental health awareness week, at least not that I know of. But recently our health insurance products have started covering it.

That is wonderful, if the health insurance can cover it. Counselling services are very expensive here in Kenya.

The health department in our place have programs in order to help mentally ill individuals. Though one concern is the lack of doctors that specialize in this field.

At least your health department is helping. Any little help as long as it comes in time can help alot!

When it comes to mental illness, we’ve definitely come a long way—but there’s still a long road ahead. The stigma is still there, but awareness is growing, which is a good start. There’s still so much to improve, especially when it comes to access and quality of mental health care.

Yes, we are observing Mental Health Awareness week too. Here in my country , there's a hospital where you can consult a psychiatrist then pay for a smaller fee compare to private mental health clinics.Have a nice day there!
