My grandmother used to have Columbia Lilies growing along the irrigation ditch. As you drive into the driveway at her house, that is what you see. The lovely and striking golden orange and red speckled flower. It is a favorite North American perennial for zones 5 through 9. It can withstand any light conditions, but it does best in dappled shade. The hummingbird is drawn to this flower and enjoys the shade as well.

Mom had some of those growing under a cottonwood tree in our yard while I was growing up. We always had hummingbirds there.

I hope that you do this year. I usually have them flying up against my window upstairs for some reason.
