A Little Intro

May 19, 2025 11:16pm CST
Hi, everyone. There's different things I'll be sharing as I go along. One thing will be about animals. Those needing to be adopted & those who are lost/found. I am the main kitty volunteer at the shelter in Ukiah, CA (I'm in Brooktrails now). Besides spending time with them, I take photos & make observations. To share on social, to help them get adopted. I also socialize the more shy & anxious ones. In July I'll have been going there for nine years. I am a fur mama of two kitties. My two elder pups both passed in the last 18 months. Do you have any furbabies? Please do share about them? Whereabouts are you from?

It sounds like you do incredibly important work. The world needs more people who care so much about animals. I’m from Oklahoma, and I have a Chihuahua named, Sadie. I love animals, and if I could afford it I’d have several pets.

@AmbiePam She's darling. Both of my babies were part Chi. I just do the best that I'm able. We have some very dedicated volunteers at the shelter. I believe that those who love & help animals have the kindest, most caring of hearts. I recently moved about 35 mins north of where I was. I'm still continuing at the shelter. I'm also looking to help out colonies here. If I was in a different living situation, I'd foster. I'm working on getting my own place. It's been a dream of mine to have my own rescue or at least help others with theirs. I'm much more of an animal person. In this county there aren't a lot of pet friendly rentals. Which is one reason animals windup at the shelter. That's a gripe of mine. Have you always lived in OK

@DragonflytotheMoon I lived in California for a few years as a very young child is Sunnyvale. Once we moved back to Oklahoma I’ve changed cities, but I doubt I ever leave the state. The tornadoes stink, but the people are incredibly kind. My friend runs a rescue, and she’s “gotten into it” with the city because of it. You and her would probably have a lot in common. She is a nurse, but every dime goes into the cats, dogs, and goats (she lives in the country so she rescues goats too). She started with two, and now has eight!

@AmbiePam It's the same as I feel about here. I'm a NorCal gal through & through. The main difficulty is how much things cost. Which is why I'm rooming with someone right now. I'm hopeful that at some point I'll be able to have my own place again. Though, this time, actually own, not just rent. I'm so done with that. How long has your friend had a rescue? What got her into it? She has eight animals all together or eight goats? I have a friend that rescues dogs with a friend of hers. They foster the ones they're able to & find homes for others.

@allknowing I've mainly had kitties in my life. I was born into a family that had cats & it just went from there. Peppie is a cutie. Is that their throne?

@LadyDuck I'm glad you do love them. Having people that are kind & compassionate toward them is important. Have you always lived in Italy? That's one place I want to visit.

@rakski Have you ever? I know that whereas in the US many of us view animals as companions & even family, it's different in some other cultures.

@DragonflytotheMoon we used to have bunnies but since it was heartbreaking when they left us, we prefer not to have one for now. I cannot say if we willhave one in the future

@RasmaSandra Please do. I look forward to when I have my own place & can have more babies. There's not enough pet friendly rentals in this area. Even if there were, I'd want to buy a home anyway.

Hi, welcome to the Mylotting world. I don't have any furbabies at the moment, I have done in the past. At the moment with our situation we feel it wouldn't be fair. However, when we finally retire we plan on many many furbabies ....and I can't wait.

@Traceyjayne When your circumstances are different, please do consider adopting. I don't know how the shelters are there, but here there are more animals in need than people that can take them. One big reason animals wind up at the shelter. Which part of the UK are you in?

Thank you for your volunteer work at the animal shelter!!! I have a rescue german shepard that we adopted from a couple that rescued the mom and her puppies from local river when we had a big flood in Louisiana in 2016. He was about 3 mo. old when we got him, named him Duke and he is my daily joy! Very loyal and a great pet, although has anxiety, which I contribute to his tramatic birth. We also have cats that came out of the woods that hang around. They are outside kitties and take care of the mice around here. We are now in the country in southern Mississippi. Nice to meet you! We have lots of animal lovers here at the Lot!

@kareng Of course. I do what I'm able. I have a friend (fellow volunteer) who, along with a friend of hers, rescues dogs. Thank you for taking Duke in & giving him his best life. We have barn cats at the shelter. Ferals who will be adopted by those with farms/ranches. Just as the others are, they're s/n, given shots & chipped. Have you always lived in MS? I look forward to meeting more of the animal lovers on here.

@jstory07 I'm glad you were able to take both of them. We have two sets of brothers & sisters at the shelter right now. They're left over from last years kitten season. Last year was the slowest year (in the nine years I've been there) that even kittens have had to wait a while to get adopted.

Welcome to myLot... I don't have any furbabies since I'm allergic to anything with fur. I have fishies... I live in Missouri. I hope you enjoy myLot and the people you interact with here.
