We took the weirdest ride today, though we’ve taken it before. A funicular makes its way to the top of Lycebettus hill in Athens, but it doesn’t make its way up the side of the hill like a sensible funicular, affording passengers a view of the city on the way up. Instead it burrows up inside the hill a bit like a mole, and emerges into daylight at the top, taking 3 minutes to travel the 210 metres. Magnificent view of Athens from the top of course, but still a weird way of doing things. And expensive. We also made our way up Philippaposz hill beside the Acropolis and got sweaty doing so. It was great going back to our extremely comfartable apartment where I was able to douse myself in cold water thanks to a fantastic shower. Crap food as usual. And strange lava trees. Athens is a wonderful place. So chilled and throwing nets of chaotic order everywhere. Sweetly melancholic, maybe that because of the terrible food.
