Green Belt Accidents

Last August, a woman was bike riding on the Green Belt here in Boise and had an accident. She had a head injury and died. Now her family is suing the city of Boise for millions of dollars. A few months before this incident, a man was riding in this same area and had an accident. He had a broken collarbone and a head laceration. The Parks and Recreation Department had marked the area in red paint. I used to ride the Green Belt nearly every day for hours, and I never received any injuries. I think that people aren't watching and aren't aware of their surroundings. If people are hurt repeatedly, Parks and Recreation should definitely do something, but if these people aren't reporting it, then how do they know it is such a hazard? For those who don't know, the Green Belt is a lovely walkway along the river that runs through our city. Many people walk it and bike it. The picture is from Boulderpoint-Boise.com

I have written about Boise and about the Green Belt, A lovely area, Perhaps people have learned how to talk on mobile phones while biking and just don't pay attention to their surroundings, Maybe a great big sign saying Pay attention to what is in front of you and around you might help.

I want to thank you for writing about the Green Belt here. I like to hear that our area is being put out their for others to know about. I think Boise, and Idaho for that matter, is a great place. That sign might be of help ,but people have to see it.

Unless the path has damage I would think you use it at your own risk.

I agree. And P&R does have a red sign there letting anyone going through know.

People are very quick to sue sometimes. And some don't take enough care when they're riding.

And they shouldn't be going through areas that they don't have the skills for.

That's very sad. I would want to know why they had accidents.
