Ydra and a surprisingly good lunch.

We took a trip to Ydra (Hydra) today, just an hour and forty minutes out of Piraeus on the Flying Cat. I don’t like these craft which have no deck to stand on either the wind in your hair. Being outside is the best, but there we all sat, about 200 of us, in airplane type seats all on neat and numbered rows. Ydra has loads of cats (now given names by my wife) and donkeys but no cars hence the need for so many donkeys who carry travellers’ suitcases up steep lanes. All a bit plastic of course, and making much of the fact that Leonard Cohen lived there for a while. I suppose he had to live somewhere much like the rest of us. And I had a great lunch!! It was pasta with a splendiferous sauce and it was freshly made and hot. When I ordered it I muttered under my breath “I just know I’ll regret this” but I was proved incorrect on this occasion. Back in Piraeus I had a cocktail and my wife’s cocktail as we watched the sun set for the last time before taking the metro up to Athens and tomorrow Paris to get the train to Bayeux. That’s the plan, but we all know what someone said about the plans of mice and men.

Donkey travel, huh? I enjoy Leonard Cohen's music. I'm glad that you proved yourself wrong on the lunch.

What a great trip you're having. Bayeux was one of the first places in France that we went to.
