A mighty big tractor

While we were away, we drove through Carnamah which is in the middle of a farming area. What better icon for the town than this giant model of a Chamberlain 40K tractor. In the 1970s, the local machinery dealer sold 99 of these tractors in one year. Despite his very best efforts, he was unable to find a buyer for a hundredth tractor.
The five-times replica of the Chamberlain 40K is 11.5 metres high, 16 metres long, and contains 42 tonnes of steel. The 40K was the first tractor manufactured in WA in 1949. It and the models that followed played a significant role in the development of WA’s agricultural regions after the Second World War.
It is certainly one big tractor. If you look carefully, you might see a lady on her gopher (mobility scooter) taking a direct line under the tractor on her way to somewhere.
Edit: I should repeat that it's just a replica and meant as a tourist attraction.

It's massive but makes a nice addition to the town. I guess there are a few farmers in particular who come to view it.

Looks quite massive!
Plus, seemingly much higher than the standard tractors that we see around us!
Quite a big tourist attraction anyways.

Tractor mechanic and engineer Bob Chamberlain designed the first one. The company became Chamberlain Industries. The West Australian government persuaded Chamberlain to move his factory from Victoria to an ex-munitions factory in Perth. The first tractors were produced in 1949 and farmers drove their new tractors hundreds of miles from the factory to their farms.

Yes, if they are too big then they are sometimes too unwieldly and cost too much to run.
