It’s top ten time! A quick disclaimer: I noticed that a lot of the songs that are on my 100 favorites list came from 1975. Instead of rehashing that list for the top ten (you know I love those songs), I picked other songs…some of which didn’t make the chart, or weren’t released as singles (so wouldn’t qualify). This song, however, couldn’t be left off. Now celebrating 50 years…. #10: Edge of the Universe - Bee Gees Hey, no jive talkin’! The Bee Gees had gone through a “down” period. Before “Jive Talkin’,” their last top 20 hit was “Run to Me” in 1972. A number of their singles didn’t even chart. Yeah, it looked like the music world had left them in the dust. So…they changed their sound. That’ll learn ya, durn ya. They actually were a little ahead of the disco curve when it came to timing (although the dance beat was definitely catching on by then). Within two years you couldn’t turn the radio on without either hearing them, or a song they wrote (“If I Can’t Have You”) or their baby brother (Andy Gibb). If Elton John owned the first half of the 70s, The Bee Gees owned the last half. That big comeback album was Main Course. It started the dancing with “Jive Talkin’,” sure, but “Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)” was really more “old-school” Bee Gees. So was this song. It was originally the B-side of “Nights on Broadway,” but was released as a single from their live album the next year. And yes, it’s my favorite Bee Gees song. Edge of the Universe Written by Barry and Robin Gibb Recorded by The Bee Gees From Main Course, 1975 It’s been my longest journey:

Having a great get-acquainted time with my new computer. BTW, how’s the steward who had the head injury?

@JudyEv — I’m sorry to hear that. My prayers and condolences to the endurance community as well as his family.

@FourWalls Unfortunately he passed away a few days later. Vince has been processing a nice photo of him for the family to use at his memorial. The endurance family is devastated as you can imagine.

I first heard it as the B-side of “Nights on Broadway,” and ended up playing that side of the 45 more!

Understand, it wasn’t a hit in ‘75 and not that big of one when released as a single in ‘76.

I actually think I would have preferred to see the Bee Gees in concert over Elton John. Not familiar with this tune.

Elton was my teenybopper idol, so then I would have said Elton. Knowing what I know now, I think I’d take The Bee Gees, too.
