A shed full of tractors

After viewing the giant tractor in Carnamah, we visited the tractor museum in the same town. When the machinery dealer sold his business, he put his efforts into creating a museum. He has concentrated on the models he used to sell viz. Chamberlain, Chamberlain John Deere and John Deere. The first two models are no longer produced. We spoke to the attendant about the giant tractor who said it had been painted in a gloss finish when it should have been matt. There was one other detail that wasn’t quite right either but I can’t remember what it was. The guy wasn’t complaining; just telling us like it was. For our $10 fee to see the tractors, we were encouraged to help ourselves to a cup of coffee and a biscuit, which we did.

John Deere for tractors is a famous brand even here in Europe. Nice to be offered a cup of coffee and a biscuit included in the price of thee visit. Surely this is a shiny bright colour.

@JudyEv Often, those who volunteer are the best guides.

It was interesting talking to the guy at the museum. He is just a volunteer with an interest in old tractors.

When I was little I was overwhelmed by how GIGANTIC my grandfather’s tractor was. Of course, it really wasn’t that big, it was just that I was so small. Fun fact: International Harvester tractors were made right here in Louisville, a long time ago.

We were partners in a farm machinery business that was an IH dealership. They were popular here back in the day. Fancy them being made there.

@JudyEv — where the factory was is now a runway for UPS planes at the airport.

It sounds like Carnamah has done a wonderful job preserving its agricultural heritage,

We enjoyed it. I like touring museums, especially those that have a lot of farming memorabilia.

Very orange!! You couldn't call it any other colour. To farmers, they were instantly recognisable.

And, of course, tractors replaced horses. My father was one of the last to use horses for his farmwork.
