Controversy time! Of course, it’s not intentional. I like to bring a little happiness to the day, not anger and hostility. So if this offends you, tough. Kidding. How can something 50 years old be controversial now? Let’s find out. #7: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - Bruce Springsteen Here’s something that’s funny but not funny. A Bruce Springsteen TRIBUTE BAND, called No Surrender (after one of Springsteen’s songs), was slated to play a bar next weekend in Tom’s River, New Jersey. After Springsteen’s comments on his European tour (and I’ll tell him the same thing I said about the Dixie Chicks: say it HERE, not there!), the owner of the bar they were going to play at decided he didn’t want the cover band. The COVER BAND. THEY didn’t say anything, they just play the music. And they’re the ones who got fired over the real Bruce’s comments. Enough of that. Let’s talk about this terrific song, the autobiography of the E Street Band. “Bad Scooter” is Springsteen, and we all know who the Big Man was. (Funny story: the first time I saw Springsteen was the day before Clarence Clemons’ birthday, and someone had a sign hanging up that said, “Happy birthday, Clarence. SAX gets better with age.” ) I thought he’d stop playing this song live after Clemons died. Oh, no: he turned it into a celebration of Clemons’ music. (There’s a long video on YouTube of the first performance of this song after Clemons’ death, and it’s amazing…heartbreaking and joyous simultaneously.) As for the title, Springsteen said in a documentary, “I still have no idea what it means.” Tenth Avenue, in Belmar, NJ, intersects with E Street, the latter being the name of Springsteen’s band. They did bust the city in half. And the world, for that matter. Fun fact: part of the extra horns on the song were the Brecker Brothers, Michael on sax and Randy on trumpet. David Sanborn also added a little extra sax magic. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out Written by Bruce Springsteen Recorded by Bruce Springsteen From Born to Run, 1975 All the little pretties raise their hands:

Eh, he's okay. I used to like him. Then he ruined himself with politics..

@RebeccasFarm — yes, Lives in the Balance is very political.

That’s the problem with too many of them. Jackson Browne, to me, killed his career with politics.

No, it doesn't. You don't strike me as someone in the mosh pit for The Boss.

@JudyEv — that Black and White Night DVD is classic. All of those modern (at the time) superstars just happy to back Roy Orbison.

@FourWalls I saw him on DVD playing with Roy Orbison and a host of other stars. I think it was called the Black and White Club or something I like. I thought he was pretty cool on that. He seemed really stoked to be there.

Never apologize for what you don’t like (except this aversion to country music you have…).

@FourWalls At least I love Patsy and the Everly Brothers...and Shania Twain. And a little bit of John Denver and Glen Campbell.

We're really in a strange situation here in America. I've seen some meteorologists posting a note that, as hurricane season approaches, people are going to get hung up on what they call "the Gulf." You may know our president unilaterally renamed it "the gulf of America." The National Weather Service has to use that (they're the federal government), but a lot of the meteorologists are old and have called it "the Gulf of Mexico" for 50 years, or longer. Anyway, I said all of that to point out that we're so divided that people take anything remotely associated with a critic or a supporter of the president is seen as being a direct endorsement of/criticism of him. I saw a sticker on a Tesla in a parking lot a couple of months ago that said, "Vintage Tesla, pre-madness edition." There are people who are vandalizing Teslas because of what Musk has been doing. We're in a no-win situation here, sadly.

@FourWalls tesla stickers seems fun but it's not fun when your property gets ruined. I am sorry your president spread and made so much bad things that a great state vecame unrecognisable.on the other hand,i wish putin or zelensky to stop the war in europe already. Rich ukrainian refugess settled well but poor ones are suffering. I think they are fighting a war of ego ehich is terrible and leaves bad taste in people's mouth

Yup. The owner of Riv's Hub used to own a restaurant called Rivoli's (his last name). It served large portions of mediocre Italian-American food. The Hub was a dive before he took it over. I've never felt the need to go there and certainly won't in the future. Yes this county is a red one but NJ is a blue state. Punishing a cover band for what Bruce said is insane.
