https://edition.cnn.com/2025/05/24/business/companies-raise-prices-trump-tariffs The primary sufferers of Trump's tariffs are and will be Americans. They will be paying more. The rest of the world has been trading with China to the extent that in many nations you can't find American products. In my country most cars are Japanese or Korean. Applicances from fridges to microwaves to computers are Chinese. When it comes to clothes... made in China. During the years we have created our own products; ketchup, canned goods, etc. What Trump's threats have done is inspire us to search other markets, make more local goods, buy from ABA (anywhere but America). I think this 'beautiful tariff' thing will be remembered as how America destroyed itself

I don't think America will destroy itself. Imported goods will cost more, no doubt about it But , Americans do not have to buy imported goods. These tarrifs will encourage Americans to produce a wider range of goods in America which may stimulate the jobs market in America as well. Increasing tarrifs will have benefits for America and Americans. Americans will buy "local" also

the things is that local goods are expensive. many years ago I was in florida and I wanted a pair of Levis. They were $80. The Chinese versions were $15. So, can Americans afford local products?

@Ineeddentures to make these products in the US hiring US citizens, paying minimum wage is going to be very expensive. Yes, we make a lot of our own stuff here. But the cost is less because our wages, our labour is cheaper. Americans won't be benefiting. Which of those supporters wants to work in a factory for 8 hours a day ? A lot of labour was done by those being deported. There won't be any benefit to Americans.

@jaylar Oh looks I get what you are saying and I can't argue with examples like that as it's well known that Chinese fakes are everywhere. But the bigger picture is that the more that is produced at home the more buoyant your economy will become. And that my.friend is a fact and the bigger picture and one which the MAGA people will endorse in their millions. These are the people who voted for Trump knowing his agenda. Democracy is weird sonetimes

Yada, yada, yada. We never saw higher prices as high when Biden was in office and no one complained. And by the way, when Trump introduced tariffs in his first term prices did not go up, but people said the same thing and so far with the new tariffs prices have not gone up, so the whole thing and the whole argument is really just a bunch of hooey. Meanwhile, many foreign businesses are coming to America to avoid tariffs, wages will likely rise, and all of this banter about higher prices will all prove to continue to be... Hooey.

@jaylar The tariffs were never about tariffs, as I have mentioned before. WE get charged MASSIVE tariffs and have for decades. We're just making the thieves of American money come to the table to renegotiate the terms with something for them to consider while we do it. Americans have suffered massively over decades due to cheap foreign labor. It has cost us good wages and destroyed our manufacturing sector, so all we have left that make up the bulk majority of jobs are lower paying retail and fast food ones. Trump will turn that around and not only will we see fairer trade, but we'll also see higher wages as well.

@porwest if you have money you want name brands. if you don't have the $$ you have to go for the cheap goods. that's reality. Silk is silk and nylon is nylon. Many Americans can't afford silk. Higher wages, higher prices

Countries have depended on America for years. I guess it is rather good that they are finding other ways. It just seems sad that it had to be done so hatefully with no regard for the people, just the bottom line.

@jaylar ......And in other countries as well. Trump did them horribly. We will never get the good rep we had back after what he has done. And, many have to suffer because of him.

Considering Trump is the leader of this country we cannot do anything about it and must proceed how best for ourselves

These Trumps tariffs are all over the news now, I just hope everything will be all good because living in a third world country, we are in a way affected by all these.

my country has been 'invaded' by China so very little stuff that we have here comes from the US and most has alternatives. Maybe we won't get Hershey bars, but we have lots of local chocolate. Maybe we won't get Kraft Mac and Cheese, but we have other versions.
