Top Ten 1975 Songs: Midnight Blue (#6)

What follows a rocker? A ballad, of course. That was 1975. These songs still hit me, 50 years later, believe it or not. What a great year to start listening to rock and roll, because I got a dose of EVERYTHING very quickly! Here’s today’s song. #6: Midnight Blue - Melissa Manchester Don’t give me that “thought it was the Lou Gramm song” stuff. (That was 1987, anyway.) No, this is the “Midnight Blue” for me. Most people know Melissa Manchester for her big hit “You Should Hear How She Talks About You.” She also had a big hit with “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” AND she co-wrote Kenny Loggins’ hit “Whenever I Call You Friend.” But I’d be remiss (and probably chewed out by Scar) if I didn’t mention her brilliant cameo as Yoko Ono on the National Lampoon’s “Magical Misery Tour” spoof of John Lennon. (I think she also did the “You are a fluke of the universe” singing on “Deteriorata,” but I don’t have the album credits in front of me.) But this song…wow. I was heavily into Elton John in 1975, but I had to get this 45. And this song still wows me.
