When a stamp is not a stamp ....Say the Post Office !

We have had all of our stamps changed and altered a few times over the past couple of years. One reason is because our lovely lovely Queen died, so we have to have King Charles on the stamps now. Another reason is because there were so many fakes around we now have a kind of barcode thingy on the edge of the stamp. Well, lo and behold , there are fakes around. My Moms cousin sent her an Easter card and a few weeks later a Birthday card and both times they were delivered with a sticker on saying the stamps were fakes. She spoke to her cousin who said we were not the only ones to have had this happen. They came today to see Mom and collect the envelopes with the fake stamps as they were being taken back to the Post Office from where they were bought. Hopefully they can be replaced. You should be able to trust that if you buy stamps from the post office they will not be fakes !!! What do you think .... Do you send cartds and letters through the mail .... or just email and text ....

Wow, that’s pretty bad. I still send Christmas and birthday cards, but that’s pretty much it for my need of stamps.

Once in a great while we actually send a letter through the mail. I think we've sent one this year and yes, we buy the stamps from the Post Office. I always buy the packs of 20 and they last us years. Most of the time, I prefer sending text messages. How can a Post Office get fake stamps to sell on to the public? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I hope they get that figured out soon.

@Traceyjayne It must be different there. The receipt I get from the Post Office shows what I bought, which Post Office I bought them from and the name of the Post Master.

Sadly these days the Post Office is franchaised out so people managing and working there do not actually work for the Post Office. I imagine it to be like a pub , whereby they can have two sets of books and buy cheap booze and sell at the regular price thereby making a huge profit. The same , i guess, with stamps. If they buy from other than the post office they run the risk of them being fakes. They make more money and chance their customers don't get caught or can not prove where they got the stamps from. Even with a receipt you can not actually prove you have bought from that particular branch.

@DaddyEvil oh yes, it is the same here ....however, as you can buy stamps from all post offices and some high street stores there is no actual proof that the fake ones were bought at any particular place, For example... I could buy a book of stamps at the post office and get a receipt. Then I could buy a book of stamps at a high street store and get a receipt. How could you prove which book had come from which place....you have two books and two receipts, but proving where each came from would be impossible. Unfortunately, the man in the street always loses out in these situations !

@traceyjayne It’s been a while since I licked a stamp. My grandkids are not going to know the joy of stamps sadly.

I haven't heard of fake stamps before. We use very few stamps nowadays.
