Oops - a careless mistake on the road and a warning

I filled gas last week at night and as I exited the petrol pump to enter a side street, I saw lights of the cop car behind me and had to face the music. I had forgotten to turn the headlights back on and turned it on after a few seconds. But there was a cop car around and he noticed it. This time I was let off with a warning after doing a background check which came clean.
Well, next time I am careless I won't be so lucky. It wasn't unsafe as it was a well lit street, but rules are rules and I should have checked before I pulled out.
Have you ever had a run in with cops on the road?

i don't drive, but it's been a while. Thankfully we hadn't had any problems with the police since George started driving again. We made doubbly sure that we were insured, and that we had the sticker for the van to say the regerstration is up-to-date.

Oh god yes
I'm a biker and cops take great delight in pulling bikers over.
I think it turns them on.
I really do.
This wee boy cop who looked about 17 years old pulled me.over.for going to slow.
I pointed out that the gradient of the hill would not allow the bike to propel any faster.
I pointed out the bike was legal for that road and it wasn't my fault if they put a steep hill on a major dual carriageway.
He said he could charge me with careless driving so I told him he should do it
I told him he would look ******* in court and he must have seen the folly of his actions because he told us to be on our way after he checked my license etc.
No common sense at all

Yes, but not for something like that. My headlights come on when I start my car.
I'm glad it was just a warning. Tickets can be expensive.

@pitstop The last time a policeperson pulled me over, it was because I had a headlight out. She was very polite and, after taking my driver's license and looking at it, she asked if I knew her coworker... He's my nephew.

I've never had a ticket or been stopped with a warning.
