Time well spent, and in the company of good wine.

Many of you will think I need my head looked at with this declaration, but I find little in life that’s as deeply satisfying and uplifting as a long, slow, ponderous read of the book of Genesis.
That’s how I spent a goodly hour or two this afternoon, installed in a walled garden among floriferous plants and on a surprisingly comfortable piece of garden furniture.
All that we need to know for life and for approaching death is contained in those short chapters and of course there are a number of ways of understanding this most mysterious and tantalising revelation of the character of God and how things fit together.
I wince when I hear him referred to as the ‘God of the Old Testament’, as if he was then to be replaced by the ‘God of the New Testament’. Same God. I wince at a lot of things, including finger nails on a blackboard.
Anyway I spent a goody time thusly this afternoon under the cold, Normandy sun, appropriately wrapped up in sweater and heavy coat. A solid red wine accompanied me - Nero d’Avola, not an expensive wine, but one that tips a nod to the warm south, and reminds me that I must revisit Sicily when Etna starts behaving herself.
Then the rain came on.

I don't believe in that God, so even reading Genesis would do me little good. I'm glad you enjoy it. I'd love to see Sicily someday. Probably in another life, though.

I'm glad to hear of someone reading "The Good Book". There has been quite a bit of volcanic activity lately.
