Natural Bridges!!

Sorry for the somber tone of the recent discussions about my jaunt last week. Let's get back to the natural beauty...with natural bridges!!
There are arches, and then there are natural bridges. The bridges have a flat top, mimicking a man-made bridge. They are plentiful...in fact, one website says that 45 of the 50 states have at least one natural bridge rock formation. Tonto Natural Bridge in Arizona is the largest, followed by Sipapu in Utah.
In Kentucky, we have our share. We have a state park devoted to one (Natural Bridge State Resort Park); however, there are plenty more where that came from.
I saw two along my journey in Red River Gorge. One is called Sky Bridge (top photo). I'm sure there's a way to get to it, but I wasn't going for that long a hike after the one to Creation Falls wore me out the day before!
This was from an overlook quite a distance from it, so you can imagine its size.
On the bottom, that's Rock Bridge. I saw that on the way to Creation Falls. I enjoyed seeing the creek under the bridge that was responsible for carving out the natural bridge.
According to one of the informational signs on the Sky Bridge scenic drive, there are over 100 arches and natural bridges in Red River Gorge alone. That's a very impressive number...and it makes for some very impressive viewing!!

That's funny thre's a swimming hole here called Natural Bridge, and there's no bridge there.

@thislittlepennyearns — I always joked that the highest point in Florida is the Sunshine Skyway.
I’ve been to that “high point” (Britton Hill). I’ve also been to the highest waterfall in Florida (Falling Waters State Park).

Isn't it interesting how these arches and bridges are formed? Natural is a wonderful thing.

I’ve never been to Arches in Utah, but I have seen that some of the arches have become so fragile that they have broken.
I was reading about the “negative ions” found in nature (especially around waterfalls). Maybe that’s why I love them so much.

Sounds cool. I never heard of it, I have been Natural Bridge in Virginia though of course. I like the rock formations in New York State, like Watkins Glen and others of that type.

I knew there was a Natural Bridge in Virginia (we went there on vacation one year), but I was surprised to see there are many states with a “Natural Bridge Park” in them.

Great photos. I trust the natural ones more than the man made ones

They’ll collapse, too, but it’ll take a few thousand years. Smart to trust the natural ones.

@FourWalls And you can usually see that it is getting close to collapsing too

@FourWalls The best part. I couldn't walk that far anyway. I live vicariously through you and Looeyville.

That’s the disadvantage of being so far away from it. I love going to the national parks (state parks, too!), so much beauty.

We used to go to Natural Bridge on Sundays and either take a path up to the bridge or go swimming at the Lodge. We would go to the restaurant at the lodge to eat. Food was so good. When some family members came for a visit one year, we rented a room for a week at the lodge, and went driving around the area. Sky Bridge is pretty close to Natural Bridge. Sky Bridge is smaller than Natural Bridge. Back in the 80's they put in a sky lift up to the bridge. My boyfriend and I took my girls up on the lift. They were big enough to get on by themselves. When Robert and I got off the lift, I looked down watching my girls. I about had a heart attack...The lift is an open 2 seater. They switched sides!!!!!!
When they got to the top I asked them what the heck they were doing switching sides..One said..She wanted to sit on my side. When we went back down, one rode with me, and one with Robert!
We camped in the Gorge a few times and I went to a Biker's Field Meet at the Gorge. It is just beautiful and so many plants only grow there and no where else. Good Memories.

I have acrophobia, so when I took the chair lift at Natural Bridge they had to pry my hands open when I reached the top.
I drove the Mountain Parkway on the way home in May and thought it’d be nice for a little more time there. Was I ever right!
Glad the Gorge stories bring back sweet memories for you.
