I often text because it is cheaper, and it won't inconvenience the other person when he/she is busy.
If I need to call, I text that person first to see if it's okay to call.
Furthermore, I can use shortcuts when texting.
Are you familiar with text shortcuts?
DM: Direct message
ATM: At the moment
TYSM: Thank you so much
SMH: Shaking my head
NVM: Never mind
If I send you this message, would you understand?
IDK abt u but AFAIC, UROK. TNXE6 !
Would you rather text or call instead?
Why?

@Jenaisle Same here. Thank you for teaching me something new. These ones don't seem to be so much in use here.

So, you are charged more if you make calls,? I am not sure how that works, here most people have unlimited data it seems. I know when I have long periods of time away from home, my phone gets used more-like if son is in the hospital or whatever, and family and friends expect me to keep them updated, I would run up a huge bill without unlimited.

Ours isn't a promo, at least not with the carrier/service my family uses. We use a family plan, everyone has unlimited data, talk, and text...I think we are spoiled! I hope you can get it as it does take away one more worry about not going over a certain amount of minutes.

I do not use those acrynyms and nor do I like them Sometimes I text and sometimes I call. They will call back if they are busy when they see the missed call

I text when the person is busy or call and talk, especially with my sons.

Family members both text and call. Other contacts it would depend on how important getting in touch with them would be.
Not a short cut texter, although know the familiar FYI and LOL.
So, what does the message at the bottom of the post say?

I am aware of a few fundamental ones as well, but I believe that they are becoming more and more prevalent as new ones do occasionally appear. For this reason, I am unsure if I am up to date on them because they appear out of nowhere and their significance is only later revealed.

There is one in your message I do not know.
If I know the person well, I prefer a call unless that person is a talker to a huge extent. I have a friend who calls me, but then will put me on hold if someone else calls her. Don’t do that! Just text me. However, if we’re just not that close I prefer a text.
My late mom was an English professor, and it would drive her nuts when students would write papers with text speak. Are you kidding? It was incredible that they thought they could get by with it.

I prefer to see proper words when I get a text. Some letter combinations can have more than one meaning

I wouldn't know what you are talking about. I have a basic flip phone. I would rather get a call.
