One Trip, Three Climates, and a Box of Tissues Later…

Just got back from my recent trip to the U.S. a week ago, and wow—what a rollercoaster of weather! From the crisp, sunny skies of San Francisco to the breezy charm of San Diego, the weather was just perfect. Warm sunshine paired with cool winds? Yes, please! I could’ve stayed in that kind of climate forever. Then came Las Vegas—and suddenly I felt like I had walked straight into a hairdryer! Dry, hot desert air that made me question every outfit I packed. Still fun though… if you stay near shade, AC, or a pool! And now? Back home to our good ol’ tropical humidity that hit me like a warm, damp hug the moment I stepped off the plane. My body clearly wasn’t ready—jetlag teamed up with humidity and gifted me a nice little cough and cold combo. Trying to settle in now as the rainy season seems to be sneaking in while summer tiptoes out. Umbrella in one hand, tissue in the other. Anyone else experiencing weird weather shifts lately? Or is it just me trying to play catch-up with the seasons?

I can also relate to that. I had outgrown my rhinitis many years ago, but after being exposed to different climates, it was triggered again when I returned home.

@cacay1 I guess being in places where air was dry and hot and cold then came back from tropical humid one just is a perfect formula for my body to react that way.

You're lucky you didn't catch Covid while you were here and take it back home with you. I'm glad you made it home safely and all you had to show for the trip was a cold. I hope you're feeling better soon.

That is correct; shortly after I returned home, I learned about a new variant of the virus that was allegedly spreading in Los Angeles. That is why I isolated myself for a week to see if I would develop a fever after contracting colds, which turned into coughs. Fortunately, I recovered without developing a full-blown flu. So I'm concluding that this is a typical cold with a cough, which my body was able to combat after a week.

@DaddyEvil The ongoing riots in LA, which are protesting the current waves of kidnappings of suspected illegal immigrants, also occurred shortly after I left the city. Everything was quiet when I visited, and there was no indication that there was an ice operation going on. Before these protests began to break out there, it seemed as though it permitted me to go back home.

You had an amazing travel!! Glad you make it home safely. I would usually experience sudden change in weather since I am travelling 60 kilometers to my workplace. There are times when I left home raining, then the sun is up when I reach my workplace or vice-versa. That's I always have my umbrella inside the car.

Yes, things were very different for me. The abrupt changes in temperature from cool and dry to hot and dry desert to humid weather confused my body because I had traveled to a completely different climate before coming home. I guess being around those would cause my body to become confused, which would weaken and compromise my immunity. Furthermore, I had to move a lot from one place to another as part of the itinerary I followed, which was physically taxing. But overall, the amazing memories I made there make it all worthwhile.

It's certainly got much chillier here but it is all to be expected.

I've never experienced the weather in Australia. Since you live in the southern hemisphere, I am aware that it is the opposite of ours.

@JudyEv Maybe one of these days I'll be able to feel and experience it. When everyone in the northern hemisphere feels hot, you in the south feel cold. I just realized that I have only explored the northern parts of the planet.

@rsa101 We were always taught that we have a Mediterranean climate so similar to the countries bordering the Mediterranean and also similar to California. But opposite of course, as you say.

I know in your place your transitioning to summer season already. While in our place we started shifting from dry and humid to wet and humid.

Yes, it's very different from ours. Because we lived so close to the sea, it appeared that we had constant sun and wind, and that it was always warm and humid. We rarely experience cold weather and it becomes a relief when we do have cold spells.

Those are drastic temp changes - from the US to here. It's colder nowadays because the rainy season has started. Still, the humidity persists, so now, I have also dry cough but no colds. Thank God for that. Now, I'm on hot ginger tea, bed rest, and lots of lukewarm water to hydrate myself. Not iced drinks please.

With the appearance of another covid variant, catching a cold can be quite alarming. But in my case, it appears that it was simply my body reacting to different climates and being tired from my two-week vacation.

Here people take an umbrella to ward off rain but come back with their open umbrella to ward off the sun

The same is true here; umbrellas are always in style, depending on the season.. They simply switch from providing shade in the summer to providing cover from the rain during the rainy season.
